"I AM HAMLET / I AM MONGOL"

This time at 8th Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) - Audio Performance by Ole Frahm and Molor-Erdene Sanjaadorj, digital prints by students of Mongolian State Universit of Arts and Culture.

To be or not to be of nomadic identity? A collective journey through the Mongolian past, present and future as a performative radio play.
Who is a Mongol? What is Mongolian identity? What is Mongolian subjectivity? And how does both changes in a city like Ulan Bator with its huge yurt districts of former nomads? A group of Mongolian and German artists, philosophers and journalists, were looking for answers in September 2013 in the streets of Ulan Bator. Twenty Mongolian students chanted Hamlet's famous monologue in a new Mongolian translation by S. Molor-Erdene, a Mongolian philosopher. The choir opened the public space for a discussion about everyday challenges, social injustice and individual courage. For the Urban Nomads // Mongol Citizens // Festival 2014 in Berlin "Crossing Identities" and for the World Congress of the International Theatre Institute in Yerevan / Armenia 2014 the work was continued as a radio play. Connected via wireless headphones in the room the audience experiences a common situation in which they can be imaginary travelling through Mongolia. - The presentation in Red Ger Gallery is the first showing of the audio performance in Mongolia before it is invited to the 8th Shanghai Experimental Theatre Festival in April 2015.
